Your Chamber is heartbroken over yesterday’s horrific mass shooting in Uvalde. We stand in support of their small, tight-knit community. We pray for all affected by this senseless tragedy and extend our heartfelt condolences to our neighbors in Uvalde.
We have heard from several of our members who are both looking for and offering ways to support the people of Uvalde, so we wanted to share some of what we are hearing.
- From Mayor Ron Nirenberg to the San Antonio Community: In honor of the children, families, teachers, and schools of our neighboring community of Uvalde, I ask that you join the City of San Antonio in lowering your flags to half-staff immediately through the time of mourning and interment of those lost. San Antonio stands with our neighbors in Uvalde amid this horrific tragedy, and we will do all we can to help our neighbors heal.
- South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is asking for blood donations. Although their appointments are booking fast, potential donors are encouraged to schedule appointments next week and into the future. To schedule an appointment or blood drive, visit http://SouthTexasBlood.org.
- University Health Foundation has set up a Uvalde Victims Relief Fund. These funds will be used to support the families while their loved ones are at University Hospital, to cover any unpaid medical expenses and other needs identified by our social workers. Any unspent funds will be donated to Uvalde charities involved in the ongoing relief efforts. You can donate through their webpage: https://bit.ly/38SN7Fn.
- San Antonio Food Bank is providing meals for teachers and counselors at the SSGT Willie de Leon Civic Center in Uvalde. They are inviting our community to volunteer at the Food Bank.
- H-E-B is committing $500,000 to support to victims and their families. Also, starting today, customers can also contribute by making monetary donations in store at the register for $1, $3, $5, $50, or $100 or at checkout in Curbside and Home Delivery orders. For more information, click here.
We thank the business community for their fervent support, and we will continue to share opportunities to help via our social media channels.
