The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the business community are extremely saddened by the news of local business leader David Straus’ passing. David was the Chamber’s Chair from 1967 – 1968, and his contributions to our community are epic, wide-spread, and long-lasting.
In addition to Chairing our Board of Directors during the 1968 World's Fair, which changed the trajectory of the city, David led the Tourist Attractions Committee for nine years. This committee was responsible for creating the master plan for the commercial development of our beloved River Walk that we all enjoy today. Not only was David a Marine Veteran and an ardent supporter of our military community, but he was also a visionary, a proponent of growth and development, and one of our city’s biggest fans.
We will certainly miss his support and his friendship; however, his great work, contributions, and impact on our community will be forever remembered.
A private burial will be held for the family. If you would like to make a donation in David’s memory, contributions may be made to the National Museum of the Pacific War (Fredericksburg, Texas), 311 E. Austin St., Fredericksburg, TX 78624, the Marine Military Academy (Harlingen, Texas), 320 Iwo Jima Blvd., Harlingen, Texas 78550, or a charity of your choice.
