Your Chamber is honored to act as a host for UTSA’s Honor College Citymester program. This is a summer course of select honors students to learn more about San Antonio and be placed in a part-time internship. They also conduct site visits to influential spots around town to learn more about that area and the impact it has on the economy/community.
We are sponsoring an impressive intern here at the Chamber, but we also agreed to be one of their site visits. The class came to visit us on Friday, June 17, and our team surprised them with special guest, Henry Cisneros – the former Mayor of San Antonio, former HUD Secretary, and former Chair of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.
Partnered with our CEO Richard Perez, Secretary Cisneros was a perfect speaker to help engage our top students in understanding San Antonio and the role they play in its future. The group discussed the history of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the role that its volunteers have played in the development of our city. We wanted the students to understand the importance of becoming civically involved and that business can be a force for good and make a positive impact.
We were all impressed by the thoughtfulness of these students who come to the program while pursuing a variety of majors. Our community needs to continue to support programs like Citymester as an opportunity to identify and cultivate talent and understand the professional prospects that exist here. These programs are equally important to both students and employers. If you are interested in learning more about Citymester and how you can participate, please contact Katie Ferrier.
