On Friday, August 12, your Chamber was proud to attend a ribbon cutting event to mark the opening of Workforce Solutions Alamo’s (WSA) latest career center. This center is special in that it is in the facilities of the San Antonio Food Bank. Their innovative partnership is designed to better serve community members in need.

With support from a US Department of Labor grant for dislocated workers, WSA opened their new center on the second floor of the Food Bank’s headquarters. Individuals and families who come to the Food Bank seeking food assistance now have easier access to employment help. They can be connected to career counselors, job training, and job placement assistance. WSA plans to expand this effort to involve a mobile career center unit that can travel to food pantries across Bexar County and offer employment assistance.

The collaborative approach leads to longer term solutions for San Antonio families. They are not just getting immediate hunger relief, but also developing a plan for a more successful future and are connected to resources that help them achieve it. Once again, San Antonio can serve as a national model for community support.
