Construction Begins on South Alamo Street

The City of San Antonio Public Works Department (PWD) along with Sundt Construction started construction on December 5, 2022, on the South Alamo Street (Market Street to East Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.) project. This project is part of the 2017-2022 Bond Program with the City of San Antonio, and estimated construction completion is December 2024. Please see the dates below for upcoming construction activities and work description. Please note all work is weather permitting. See the map provided for work zone areas and traffic lane access.

December 5, 2022, thru December 23, 2022

Construction activities on South Alamo (Market to Cesar Chavez) will include:

• Installation of traffic signage and barricades.
• Demolition of medians and light pole.
• Paving restoration over removed medians.

At a minimum, at least one lane of traffic both south bound and north bound on S. Alamo will remain open at all times.

January 2023 thru September 2023

Construction activities on South Alamo (Market to Cesar Chavez) westside will include:

• Install chilled water.
• Temporary water line.
• Sewer bypass.
• Install new sewer main.

A full road closure will be required on the Westside of South Alamo Street (Market to Cesar Chavez). To facilitate traffic one lane will be opened north bound and south bound on the Eastside of South Alamo Street (Market to Cesar Chavez). Access to all businesses will be provided.
