More than 300 military and community leaders gathered for the Spirit of America Dinner on November 1 to celebrate and honor the accomplishments and sacrifices of the U.S. Armed Forces. This event, made possible through the generosity of USAA, Cavender Auto Group and SeaWorld San Antonio, is held to demonstrate a grateful nation's appreciation for the past, present, and future Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and Guardians.

Held at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, the event featured the presentation of colors by the Color Guard from Joint Base San Antonio and entertainment from an Air Force band.  On hand to receive special recognition were four World War II veterans (including 104-year-old Bill Barnes), veterans of the Vietnam War, and several Gold Star families (families of military service members who have died in combat).

A stirring and inspirational keynote address was delivered by Ryan Manion, Founder and CEO of the Travis Manion Foundation, one of the leading veteran services organizations.  Manion recounted the loss of her brother, 1st Lt. Travis Manion, USMC, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in combat in Iraq in 2007.  Ryan created the foundation bearing his name and she now shares her story of turning grief into inspiration by helping others through acts of service.

Chamber Chairman Mario Barrera thanked Richard Delgado for volunteering for the Chamber for many years and serving as the Chair of Celebrate America’s Military in 2023 and 2024. “I want to thank Richard for his continued support of our veterans and their families. He is a true ambassador for Military City, USA, and we have been blessed to have him lead this great team,” said Barrera.

The dinner was part of the Greater Chamber’s Celebrate America’s Military (CAM) series of events, which dates back to 1970 and is considered the nation’s largest community celebration honoring the military. Thank you to USAA, Cavender Auto Group and SeaWorld San Antonio for their tremendous support of CAM! Most importantly, thank you to the members of our nation’s military and veterans!
