Spirit of America Award Dinner
On November 1, more than 300 military and community leaders gathered to celebrate and honor the accomplishments and sacrifices of past, present and future members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Held at the majestic Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, the event included a cocktail reception, an elegant dinner, entertainment and a stirring keynote address by Ryan Manion, CEO of the Travis Manion Foundation. Manion recounted the loss of her brother, 1st Lt. Travis Manion, USMC, which led to the creation of the foundation in his name. the event Ryan now shares her story of turning grief into inspiration by helping others through acts of service. Also, in attendance and being honored were veterans of World War II through Vietnam, and members of Gold Star families (families of military service members who have died in combat).
Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) Reception
On November 4 the new Cavender Grande Ford dealership was the setting for a special tribute to senior non-commissioned officers in all the military branches. The purpose of the event has always been to draw special attention and appreciation to this rank of military officers who play a vital role in military leadership but whose contributions are often overlooked.
Women in the Military Luncheon
Finally, SeaWorld San Antonio hosted the Women in the Military Luncheon on November 7. The luncheon commemorated the invaluable contributions of women in the military who reside in the Greater San Antonio area. The event included a panel discussion including three remarkable women from Joint Base San Antonio, representing the Sea Services -- United States Navy, United States Marine Corps and the Coast Guard – and each shared their stories of their challenges and triumphs in the military.
