The Greater San Antonio Chamber recently convened its Healthcare and Military Affairs Councils for a joint meeting to discuss issues critical to the region’s economic vitality, national security, and quality of life.
The collaborative session brought together healthcare leaders, military officials, business executives, and community stakeholders to explore opportunities for partnership, address shared challenges, and strengthen San Antonio’s position as both Military City, USA® and a leading healthcare hub. Panel discussions were led by Dr. Robert Miller, Lt. Gen., USAF (Ret.), Military Health Institute; Dr. Alan Peterson, STRONG STAR Consortium; and Doug Gissendaner, MSgt, USAF (Ret.), The Geneva Foundation.
The meeting highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between two of San Antonio’s largest economic drivers and their collective impact on workforce development, innovation, and community prosperity.
The healthcare and bioscience industry supports nearly 200,000 jobs and generates more than $40 billion in annual economic activity, while the military and defense sector supports more than 200,000 direct and indirect jobs and anchors one of the nation's largest concentrations of military operations and military medicine.
