KLRN is celebrating national recognition after its children's digital series, Hank & Emma Faye Sign of the Day, earned two Silver Telly Awards during the 47th Annual Telly Awards.
The series received top honors in the General TV – Children's Series and General TV – Education & Discovery Series categories, bringing the program's total to five national Telly Awards and two Lone Star Regional Emmy Awards.
Designed for children ages 4 to 8, Hank & Emma Faye stars Emma Faye Rudkin and her black Labrador retriever, Hank, who serves as her trained hearing dog. The KLRN PBS digital series teaches American Sign Language while promoting kindness, friendship, inclusion, and social-emotional learning.
In addition to her work on KLRN, Rudkin is the Founder and Executive Director of Aid the Silent, a San Antonio-based nonprofit that provides deaf and hard-of-hearing children and teens with access to communication resources, educational support, and community programs to help them reach their full potential. Hank plays an important role both on and off screen. As Rudkin's hearing dog, he alerts her to sounds such as doorbells, alarms, approaching vehicles, and someone calling her name. He also assists by retrieving dropped items, helping Rudkin navigate daily life with greater independence.
Through engaging lessons and heartfelt storytelling, Hank & Emma Faye introduces young audiences to the value of diversity and encourages children to embrace and celebrate differences. The award-winning series continues to reflect KLRN's commitment to educational programming that inspires, informs, and builds understanding.
