What will it take to keep Texas competitive as San Antonio continues to grow?

That question took center stage Monday as state Sen. Donna Campbell joined Greater San Antonio Chamber President and CEO Jeff Webster for the Chamber's Greater Conversations series.

Campbell discussed property tax relief, education and infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of preparing Texas' future workforce.

As the newly appointed chair of the Senate Education Committee, Campbell identified strengthening foundational education and expanding college, career and military readiness as priorities.

“The best thing we can do for Texas is to give them a foundation of good education,” Campbell said.

Infrastructure was another major focus. Campbell discussed continued investment in transportation, energy and water to accommodate the state's growth.

“We need to do more than just find dollars,” Campbell said, encouraging businesses to explore creative solutions to infrastructure challenges.

She also addressed artificial intelligence and data centers, emphasizing the need to protect Texas' energy and water resources as demand increases.

For Chamber members, the event offered more than a legislative update. It provided an opportunity to connect with business leaders and engage directly with elected officials.

“The value of being at these events is incredible,” said Sandi Wolff, vice president of community engagement and advancement at Hallmark University. “You also get to connect with people that are not in the same spaces as you are.”

Campbell closed by encouraging attendees to communicate with lawmakers about challenges affecting their businesses and communities.
