A year ago, two nationally recognized institutions became one. One year later, UT San Antonio has emerged as a 44,000-student powerhouse—the third-largest public research university in Texas—with more than $521 million in annual research activity and a health system serving more than 2.8 million patient visits each year.
Celebrating the one year of integration of Greater San Antonio Chamber members UTSA and UT Health San Antonio, here are some of the ways that UT San Antonio’s vision is already taking shape:
- Training tomorrow’s doctors for an AI-driven world: UT San Antonio launched the nation’s first dual-degree program in medicine and artificial intelligence, putting medical education and cutting-edge technology in the same classroom.
- Turning brain research into patient care: The new Center for Brain Health brings together neurological care, research and comprehensive support for patients and families under one roof.
- Creating new pathways into the future: UT San Antonio launched the nation’s first College of AI, Cyber and Computing, while expanding opportunities for students at its growing Downtown Campus, now home to approximately 8,000 students.
- Connecting discovery to the people who need it: With research spanning cancer, Alzheimer’s, aging, metabolic disease, AI, cybersecurity, robotics and more—and a clinical enterprise conducting more than 500 clinical trials—the university has an unusually direct path from discovery to patient care.
- Building a university designed for both excellence and opportunity: UT San Antonio is one of just 13 universities in the country with the combined Carnegie distinctions for R1 research, community engagement and opportunity, and ranks among the top 10% nationally for driving economic mobility.
