Executive Connections: San Antonio (ECSA) participants recently stepped into the center of San Antonio’s business and civic landscape, gaining firsthand insight into the leadership, investments and partnerships influencing the city’s future. This Economic Development Day offered an exclusive opportunity to hear directly from decision-makers and explore two important institutions shaping the community.

The morning began at City Hall with a panel discussion featuring City Manager Erik Walsh, greater:SATX CEO Sarah Carabias-Rush, Brooks Development Authority CEO Leo Gomez and District 10 City Councilman Marc Whyte. Representing distinct areas of public and private leadership, the panelists shared perspectives on San Antonio’s priorities, business climate, community investments and opportunities for continued growth. The conversation underscored the importance of collaboration across government, business and community organizations. Participants gained a closer understanding of the decisions behind major city initiatives and the leadership required to balance long-term priorities with the needs of a growing city. The candid exchange also gave executives an opportunity to engage directly with leaders whose work helps shape San Antonio’s direction.

From City Hall, the cohort traveled to the Toyota Experience Center at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas, where they were welcomed by Frank Voss, President of Toyota Texas, who shared insights into the company’s operations, leadership and investment in the city. Participants then took an exclusive tour of the plant, which brought the city’s manufacturing strength to life, offering a firsthand look at the technology, precision and coordination behind Toyota’s operations. They saw how advanced manufacturing contributes to the local workforce and connects San Antonio to a broader global industry.

The day offered two distinct perspectives on leadership in action: the public-sector decisions that help guide a city and the private-sector investments that create jobs, build expertise and strengthen local industry.

For ECSA participants, the value extended beyond the presentations and tours. Direct access to influential leaders, candid dialogue and an inside look at major city institutions provided a deeper appreciation of the relationships and shared vision needed to keep San Antonio moving forward. This experience reinforced a central theme of the ECSA program - understanding a community means getting beyond the headlines and into the rooms, organizations and conversations where its future is being shaped.
